2019 WWII Submarine Veterans Museum Kings Bay Memorial Oct 23 – 27
The annual WWII Submarine Veterans Museum gathering sponsored by the St. Mary’s WWII submarine Veterans Museum, at Kings Bay Georgia was a great success. This was a fantastic event, submariners from all over the US were there. Plenty of great food and events. There were 14 WWII Submariners in attendance.
The Ceremony itself was on Friday, October 25th at 10 am at the Submarine Veterans of WWII Pavilion in front of TTF (Trident Training Facility). Visit the museum’s Facebook page for photos of the event, St. Mary’s WWII submarine Veterans Museum.
2018 Little Log House & Antique Power Show Report
Our Base was represented at the Little Log House Show during the weekend of July 27-29 at the Steve Bauer farm in Hastings, MN. This is the site that has the University Avenue Porky’s Drive in. The MSP 708 Float was attached to the Military display area and participated in the daily Parade. Traffic during the weekend exceeded 150,000 and we were greeted by several families that have seen the float at parades, and even while we were at the pier in Wisconsin for lunch. The float was manned by several members including Barnes, Marquis, Tupper, Wilcox, Lowrie, and Bob Bidon. Luckily, Ken Tupper donated a Golf cart for getting around the 240 acre site. The weather cooperated, and a good time was had by all. We are already registered for the show next July.
2018 Memorial Day Ceremony Report
Our Memorial Day Ceremony and picnic at the Como Park USS Swordfish Memorial was another enjoyable time. I’m sorry to say I was the only SubVet in attendance. The weather was very hot and humid and I’m sure that had something to do with the attendance. There were 17 of our family there to enjoy a wonderful picnic lunch. Rose Ann Bergstrom did a great job with the picnic setup, food, and decorations.
The memorial “Tolling of the Boats” ceremony was read by Joel Bergstrom and Mike Shortreed, a Maplewood police officer, rang the bell. The ceremony was conducted in an abbreviated format as is used by the USSVI.
